Condolences for Dennis Kyle Baker

Richard Cavett posted on 11/4/19

I use to call him, "Bake." Like Rich B., I rented his apartment on his farm for many years. We both taught on the third floor at WHS for many years. The only time I saw tears in his eyes was the day his mother Mildred, passed away. In 35 years of teaching, he had perfect attendance for 33 out of those 35 years. I think a record that will never be broken. Take care, my friend. Rick Cavett

Dennis Kyle Baker was my mentor. I first met Kyle in 1974 as a “Rookie” teacher. I learned so much from him about teaching and life. Except for my father, no one had more of an influence on me than Kyle. Some of my fondest memories came from the years I rented a house on his farm. He had a great sense of humor. As a city boy from Pittsburgh, I knew nothing about farm life. Kyle helped me with my first garden. He sent me to a hardware store and told me to ask for a packet of potato seeds. When I told him they didn’t have any he found great pleasure in having played a trick on me. He was my friend and he will be missed by so many people. Vickie, LouAnn and Marla, I thank you for letting me be a part of Kyle’s life. My prayers are with all of you. Rich

Mr. Baker was my biology teacher and he was also my father’s biology teacher. His humor, enthusiasm, and high standards contributed to my becoming a biology teacher. My deepest condolences and prayers are with you.

It's always hard to hear of the passing of a good man, teacher, coach and employer. Mr. Baker has always been one of my special rememberances from my youth. In addition to teacher and coach, he gave me my first job bailing hay and combining oats on his farm. Every day ended with a full dinner served by Saundra. Condolences to Vicki and family. Thoughts and prayers for all.

I am sorry for your loss. Your Dad was loved and admired by many. I had him as a Biology teacher but I’ll admit science wasn’t my favorite subject. My youngest brother always listen to your Dad’s wisdom. Michael spoke of your Dad and going out to farm. I am so sorry for your loss. May He Rest In Peace.

Mr. Baker was one of my favorite teachers. He was quite the comedian, sending girls to another teacher’s room to ask for items like a left handed hammer. Prayers to the family.

Mr. Baker was like a father to me during my teen years. He was so loving and caring to his daughter and me and to all her friends. He let me ride and drive his tractor and watch him kill and butcher a cow. He let me go on many vacations with his family and I will always have fond memories of that time spent with the “Bakers”. See you in Heaven.
